How this works
You arrived while the book is still being written.
That is not a problem.
It might be the point.
Chapters appear when they are finished. Nothing here is scheduled, and nothing is padded to reach a length. The list of chapters shows what exists; the locked chapter is honest about the rest.
The book keeps a small amount of state, all of it in your own browser and none of it sent anywhere:
- Which page you stopped on, so it can offer to put you back there.
- How far into each chapter you have read, counted in pages, and whether you finished it.
- Whether you prefer light or dark paper, and one page at a time or the whole chapter.
- Your answer to Chapter Two’s question about memory, if you give one.
There is no account, no tracking, no analytics, and no newsletter waiting to ambush you. Clearing your browser data resets the book to a stranger.
It also installs as an app and keeps working offline, which felt appropriate for something that spends so much time insisting it is a physical object.
